I’m thrilled!

I’m thrilled! The students enrolled in my MPC (Master Practitioner’s Course) online come from about 30 different countries… to name a few – Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Hong Kong, India, Iraq, Kuwait, Portugal, Romania, South Africa, Russia, UAE, Switzerland…well I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Personal Taste & Feng Shui

People often ask me how to incorporate their own personal tastes and likes into the decoration and arrangement of furniture in their homes in order to maximize the benefits of good feng shui.

As with everything, your personal creativity and taste (and individual priorities) must be factored into any room design to achieve maximum results. Otherwise you will never be happy or satisfied in the room! So the first thing I always tell people is to listen to yourself and please don’t use any paint color, furniture arrangement or piece of art that you yourself don’t really like. Respect your inner voice and your will find your personal chi blending with the way you decorate and arrange your rooms.

Now here’s another important point to remember. Unless you have positive interaction with all the objects you place inside your home, they will not have as much power to actualize good luck for you. Just imagine that you hate the colour pink, yet you know if it is used in a particular sector it attract love into your life. My recommendation is not to use it because your dislike of the colour is related to you own auric field at some subconscious level. So please do respect your intuition and feelings in this regard.

Your tastes will change as you age, along with your preferences for color, furniture, and decorative objects that appeal to you. You may want a more minimalistic modern look or a cozier feel to your home. So do take time to rearrange your room and furniture and activate your corners as often as you like. However do keep in mind the annual and monthly flying stars – the annual cures must remain in place throughout the year and should not be moved or changed.

Personally I love to change things around and nothing makes me happier than to revitalize my rooms! This creates the beneficial movement of chi but also ensures the energy of my home never gets tired and my life never stagnates. A very good time for a thorough cleaning and rearrangement is just before the start of the New Year. Never forget that feng shui is all about the science of enhancing your personal space so pay attention to your inner voice and make your space your own.

Time To Tune In

Feng shui is all about energy – the tangible energy created by physical buildings, structures or other objects that affect energy flow as well as what I like to call “intangible energy”. Intangible energy is more subtle and sometimes hard to detect in your home…it may come from the history of past residents, the earth energy on which the home was built and the inner spirit of your home. Sometimes a home may be afflicted by spiritual entities from other realms.

Here’s how you can tune in to the pattern and flow of chi -both inside and outside your place of residence. Stand at the entrance to your home facing outward and focus your attention – feel the energy that is coming toward you and your main entrance. Is it agitated and fast moving…or does it have a more benevolent and slower feel to it? If your home is being hit by a poison arrow or hostile building the energy will feel agitated and fast, whereas if your home faces a bright hall or calm environment it will feel more calm and restful.

Now go inside and walk through your home. Usually you can sense if a room is more yin than yang – is it dark, quiet and feeling a little sad…or is there strong yang energy present with a happy feeling? Here’s the interesting thing. The energy of a home usually mirrors the energy of its residents. Homes that exude a defeated or tired energy usually belong to tired or exhausted people, while the energy of homes of successful and happy people is usually more yang in nature. Of course it’s different with everyone but usually a home or office reflects the attitude, nature, mood and well being of its residents.

The more you practice this, the better you will become at recognizing the different types of energy. Everyone has the ability to feel the energy of spaces – some have a more heightened awareness than others…but everyone has the potential to sense the energy around them. Continue to practice and you will be amazed at how your skill level changes.

Never forget good common sense when you are practicing feng shui. Ask yourself when you are analyzing something if the suggested method really makes sense in your particular situation. Don’t overdo and always remember the importance of balance and harmony! Make adjustments as necessary if you feel things are not quite right – sometimes a simple adjustment is all that is needed to correct a problem.

We Chinese believe that light falling rain is an auspicious sign – especially if it’s on the day when you go out to look at a piece of property! In feng shui water signifies money so this is actually a sign of good luck. Watch out if the weather becomes stormy and blustery, as this isn’t such a good sign.
